Start of transplant prep and fertility injections

This week has marked the start of my transplant preparation and fertility treatment. After a rocky start with delayed trains I started my two weeks in London.

The first few days have consisted of lung function tests, a 5 hour kidney test, meeting some my transplant team and starting my injections for fertility preservation treatment.

The lung function test was not as I first thought there was no treadmill! the nurse did say i had got off lightly. It did however involve wearing a nose clip and lots of breathing into a machine its pain free which is always a good thing.

Meeting my specialist transplant nurse was a bit weird and made it all seem so much more real.

Starting my injections for fertility treatment has been fine so far, I think I am lucky not being scared of needles and I have had to inject myself before with being on warfarin sometimes you need to use a different blood thinner via injection. By the end of this week it will be 4 injections a day which is daunting maybe I can make a pattern on my stomach haha.

The kidney test was done in the nuclear medicine department you have an injection with a small amount of radiation in which is a tracer and every hour you have a blood test for 5 hours totally painless just very tedious.

Next week I will have a scan to see if we are ready for the next stage in fertility treatment and from there it will be a few days more injections then a mini operation to remove eggs and freeze them for after my transplant.

Also next week if i am not too ill from the mini op I will be having more prep tests and meeting some more of the transplant team.
