It’s now day +14 and what a rollercoaster week it has been. Since my last blog I was taken off the syringe drive for anti sickness and managed on the tablets . . . I was nausea free for a few days it did return but not to the extent of last time.
To get your bone marrow to grow faster you are given GSF injections, you are told there may be some aching WOW what an understatement I had incredible back pain worse than when I had a bleed on my sacral joint. You are given plenty of pain relief, although this too can make you feel sick so it was a toss up between how much pain I could stand and if I could stomach morphine.
It is not all bad as later in the week I was told I have grafted this is amazing news and quite fast maybe why it was so painful? This means cells have started growing and neutrophils increasing, during this time you still need close monitoring though as the other types of blood cells can drop and you may need transfusions of blood or platelets.
All that being said I have been told I may be allowed to leave hospital soon very exciting even though I still wont be going home, I will be OUT!!!!! It is best to stay near the hospital for a number of weeks as if you get a temperature etc you need to go straight back in and there will be a number of appointments during the week. If you live far away it just is not possible to do all that travelling.
My hair has also been shaved off this week, it started to fall out which was just too annoying! It is a strange sensation when your hair starts to fall out, my scalp started to be a bit sore and uncomfortable then the hair started to fall out not in clumps but almost like thinning fast, it is definitely more comfortable with it shaved shorter
So as I head into week three I just need to get the right cocktail of tablets and I will be free well out of the hospital at least.
