Had my gastroscopy this week, it is basically a camera on a long tube that goes down your throat into your stomach. It was not pleasant to say the least but not painful.
First they numb your throat with a spray thats meant to taste like vanilla but tastes like off bananas to me, then they put a mouthpiece in your mouth and strap it to your head, I'm guessing so you don't spit it out/swallow it. The camera going down your throat is the worst bit as you gag. While they were in there they took a few biopsies the test only takes 10 minutes.
The nurse said she couldn't see anything drastic which is good news, just have to wait on the biopsies to be sure.
When I saw the consultant they told me I have osteopenia ( brittle and fragile bones) this could have been caused by the transplant itself, the medications or I may have had it before transplant, I will find out more when I see the rheumatologist again. For now calcium and vitamin D tablets which will hopefully improve things.
Over the next week I am weaning off my immunosuppressants and back to London in three days to make sure I am not having any drastic effects from this, fingers crossed!
